Recipe:

This smoothie recipe is carefully crafted to deliver a refreshing blend of flavours while providing essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to fuel your day. It allows for flexibility with regards to the ingredients so feel free to mix and match your fruit and juice/milk to adjust the flavours or suit whatever you currently have on hand. You may use any of Symbeeosis’ range of Organic Functional Honeys (Propolis, Ginger or Turmeric), as a sweetener and nutritious add in.

This recipe takes about 10minutes from start to finish. It serves one but may be doubled or tripled to suit your needs.

Ingredients:

–  ½ ripe banana, peeled and sliced

– 1 cup fresh or frozen mixed berries (such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries), or chopped seasonal fruit (peaches, nectarines, apples, etc)

– 1 tablespoon Symbeeosis Functional Organic honey with Propolis, Ginger or Turmeric

– 1/2 cup orange juice or plant based or dairy milk of your choice

– Handful of ice cubes (optional)

Instructions:

1. Peel and slice the 1/2 banana. If using fresh berries, rinse them thoroughly under cold water and pat them dry. If using frozen berries no prep is required. Chop any other seasonal fruit roughly into small chunks.

2. In a blender, combine the banana, mixed berries and/or summer fruit, Symbeeosis Organic Functional honey, and milk or juice of choice. Add a handful of ice cubes to the blender to make the smoothie extra refreshing if it’s an extra hot day.

3. Secure the blender lid tightly and blend the ingredients on high speed until smooth and creamy. If the smoothie is too thick, you can add more milk, juice or water to achieve your desired consistency.

4. Taste the smoothie and adjust the sweetness or tartness to your liking. You can add more Symbeeosis functional honey for extra sweetness and nutrition or some lemon juice for a tangy kick and a Vitamin C boost.

5. Once the smoothie reaches your desired consistency and taste, pour it into glasses and serve. If desired, garnish the smoothie with fresh mint leaves, sliced fruits, or chia seeds for added texture and flavour. Alternatively fill a glass jar and take it with you for an on-the-go snack.

Notes:

– This smoothie can easily be made vegan by opting for fruit juice or plant-based milk as your liquid base and by using Agave Syrup or Maple Syrup in place of Honey. Alternatively use sweeter fruit instead to deliver sweetness instead of honey.

– May we suggest that you add a sachet of any of Symbeeosis’ Organic elixir powders (available in 5 unique compositions – Relax, Energy, Immune, Brain and Vitality) in place of the functional honey to keep your smoothie vegan, but with an added nutrition boost.

– You may also add a handful of baby spinach, tasteless but packed with iron and other essential minerals and nutrients, to upgrade the nutritive value of your smoothie. May we recommend a squeeze of lemon here, as the vitamin C will help your body to better absorb the iron in the spinach.

– Nuts or Avocado would also be a great addition of healthy fats. Just blend another 30 seconds longer if using nuts, so they blend finely.
