Nettle is a herbaceous plant native to Greece which has been known since ancient times for its diuretic and rejuvenating properties as it removes toxins from the body. Its scientific name, Urtica, comes from the Latin verb urere, meaning “to burn,” due to the burning sensation caused to the skin by contact with the plant, a property that exists to protect it and gives it its beneficial properties.  In fact, according to the European Medicines Agency, nettle is officially considered a traditional herbal medicine both for its diuretic properties and for the relief of mild joint pain along with the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis.
